Jenn Leov is an artist and ceramicist based in the Holtom Art studios in Paekakariki.

My studio and gallery space is where you find me most days creating with clay and making artwork; utilising my love of colour and I really enjoy the instant gratification of painting compared to creating ceramics ( sometimes things don’t go to plan in the pottery game).

I have experience teaching the joy of ceramics to others in my studio through a range of workshops and also in Paekākāriki school teaching the whole school clay skills and creating a school wide project. I wholeheartly have seen the benefit of using clay to recentre a busy mind and focus people from all stages of life. There is magic in doing something tactile in a world full of over stimulation and technology.

Recently I have been taking part in reduction firings including wood/soda/ diesel firing and enjoy firing my work in this method.

My first experimentations with firing were pitfiring in a gallon drum in my backyard. It amazes me how many variables there are with making ceramics.

I have studied under Uku master Wi Taepa at Te Wanaga where I learnt how to carve into clay and understand Maori art and design principals. I also have a Design degree majoring in Textile design.

I draw inspiration from my surrounds living close to the beach gives me a rich landscape to draw from.
